The NHL suspended Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson three games on Wednesday for an illegal hit on Pittsburgh’s Zach Aston-Reese.
The league announced the suspension less than 24 hours after Wilson broke Aston-Reese’s jaw with a violent collision near the Washington bench in the second period of Washington’s 4-3 Game 3 victory over the Penguins.
Aston-Reese was stickhandling near the Capitals bench when Wilson drilled the rookie with his left shoulder. The force propelled Wilson up into the Washington bench while Aston-Reese lay on the ice for several moments before skating off. He was later diagnosed with a concussion and a broken jaw.
The NHL’s Department of Player Safety ruled Wilson made Aston-Reese’s head the initial point of contact during the collision Dick Butkus Jersey , pointing out that Wilson did not have to pivot to his left side to hit Aston-Reese.
The league said Aston-Reese made no sudden movement at the last second that made contact unavoidable. The league pointed out several ways Wilson could have finished the play legally only to instead launch himself at Aston-Reese.
”He extends up and into the hit unnecessarily,” the league said in a video.
While Wilson was not penalized during the game, the league’s Department of Player Safety called for a hearing on Wednesday.
This isn’t the first time this season Wilson has been disciplined by the league. He was forced to sit out two preseason games following a late hit on St. Louis Blues rookie Robert Thomas and was suspended for the first four games of the regular season for boarding Blues forward Sammy Blais shortly after his return.
The league pointed out Wilson’s status as a repeat offender as a factor in the length of the suspension it handed out.
Game 4 is scheduled for Thursday night in Pittsburgh.

Jon Cooper didn’t blame Andrei Vasilevskiy for the Tampa Bay Lightning digging a deep hole early in the Eastern Conference final.
Two games and two losses brought plenty of criticism of the young Russian goaltender. Cooper wasn’t thrilled about that.
”The questions were coming from the other side of the table, and I felt it was the questioning of Vasilevskiy,” the Tampa Bay coach said. ”We don’t. He’s been the guy for us.”
Vasilevskiy is the guy who turned the series around for the Lightning, who now lead the Capitals 3-2 and can eliminate Washington on the road in Game 6 on Monday night and move on to the Stanley Cup Final against the Vegas Golden Knights. After a 6.00 goals-against average and .839 save percentage in Games 1 and 2, he has a 2.00 GAA and .943 save percentage since as the series’ biggest difference-maker.
”Just tried to stay positive and play my game http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com...use-jersey ,” Vasilevskiy said last week. ”It’s very important, especially in the playoffs. Good or bad game, doesn’t matter. Turn the page, start over again and again. That’s how you get success.”
Vasilevskiy has found plenty of success this season, his first as a full-time NHL starter. The 23-year-old is a Vezina Trophy finalist after leading the league with 44 wins and eight shutouts.
But Vasilevskiy hasn’t made it easy on himself. He rarely does.
Cooper saw it during the 2016-17 season when Vasilevskiy struggled during a stretch of 10 consecutive starts when Ben Bishop was hurt and then again late this season when a swoon by him and the entire team almost cost Tampa Bay the East’s top seed. Vasilevskiy bounced back strong each time.
”His ability to be able to turn the page now and understand, `You know what there might be a tough night for you, but I’m going to go out the next night anyway and I’ve got to be there for my team Chidobe Awuzie Jersey ,’ – I think that’s where his growth process has really come in,” Cooper said.
The same happened between Games 2 and 3 in this series. The shy Vasilevskiy who has been reluctant to do interviews told a pool reporter he didn’t make any adjustments from his worst games against the Capitals to his best.
Somehow, he has looked like an entirely different goalie. Chants of ”Vasy! Vasy!” filled Amalie Arena in Game 5 on Saturday night when he stopped 28 of 30 shots, and the highest praise was reserved for inside the Lightning’s locker room.
”He’s a world class goaltender, that’s what he does,” defenseman Braydon Coburn said. ”He battles hard every day in practice all season long, and he’s raised his game in the playoffs here.”
No doubt his teammates have improved their play in front of Vasilevskiy Jacoby Brissett Jersey , with defenseman Anton Stralman saying: ”We always feel like we owe him.” But against a star-studded Capitals team led by countrymen Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov, Vasilevskiy had to raise his game to give Tampa Bay any chance.
Lightning captain Steven Stamkos said confidence in Vasilevskiy never wavered, and he has showed them on the ice evidence of what they’ve seen all season.
”He just expects a lot,” Stamkos said. ”You see his work ethic every day in practice. You guys don’t get to see what goes on in the room, but his mental preparation, his physical preparation, he wants to be the best all the time. He doesn’t want to give up a goal at all Eric Ebron Jersey , including in practice. That’s the mentality he has and that’s why he’s so good.”
If the Capitals can crack Vasilevskiy like they did the first two times, there will be a Game 7 on Wednesday night at Tampa Bay. But they’d better figure that out and get an even better game from Braden Holtby because the Lightning are 11-0 in the playoffs when scoring three-plus goals.
That record is thanks to Vasilevskiy, who doesn’t like cameras but loves playoff hockey.
”It’s definitely a fun time,” he said. ”Lot of emotions. Different hockey. It’s pretty fun to play. Just excitement level is pretty high. A different season.”

Jared Goff realizes the Los Angeles Rams won't surprise anybody this fall.
Not with their stunning one-season transformation still fresh in the NFL's collective mind http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com...ham-jersey , and certainly not after adding several stars to their roster in the offseason.
The Rams are headed into the new season as a legitimate Super Bowl contender, with all of the accompanying baggage and scrutiny. For a 23-year-old leader of a franchise that has very little recent experience with positive expectations, Goff appears to be handling it well.
"There's not one change to the approach at all," the third-year quarterback said. "I think you see every year, there are teams that get that type of label and often fall short, and you wonder why. I think that's something we can't really focus on. Take every day like we have the past year."
That past year was nothing short of outstanding. Coach Sean McVay's debut team ended the Rams' streaks of 13 consecutive non-winning seasons and 12 straight non-playoff seasons with an 11-5 run to the team's first NFC West title since 2003.
The league is ready to be challenged by McVay's potent offensive schemes, Offensive Player of the Year Todd Gurley's relentless running and Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald's disruptive play in the middle of the defense.
The Rams must figure out how to adjust to their opponents' anticipation with new twists and a renewed focus.
McVay seems confident his veteran players will be ready for the pitfalls of being a favorite this fall.
"Going into Year Two, there's a comfort level of at least feeling like you know your players," McVay said. "We feel really good about the core group of leaders, and about some of the younger players we're going to expect to grow into leadership roles. It's a great group of guys."
The Rams kept intact much of last season's roster http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/kh...ack-jersey , but their offseason additions are an eye-catching bunch: defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, receiver Brandin Cooks and cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib. All four have established themselves as elite NFL contributors, and their addition to an 11-win team shows why the Rams are getting Super Bowl talk.
But Talib realizes the Rams have to prove they know how to use all of that talent over the next five months before they can think about February.
"We aren't talking about what's going to happen down the road," Talib said. "We take care of the little things, and then some time later we can talk about the playoffs."
Here are some other things to know about the Rams:
BIG NUMBERS
The Rams probably won't double the number of points they scored last season, which is a feat they actually accomplished in 2017. But McVay's offense kept its entire line intact and added the speedy Cooks to replace Sammy Watkins. Almost everybody else returns, including Gurley, the scheme's centerpiece. How McVay plans to use all this talent is partly a secret, since the coach decided to keep his entire starting offense out of the Rams' four preseason games. The league must wait to see what innovations McVay has produced until the season opener in Oakland.
CORNER POCKETS
Peters and Talib have similar reputations as risk-taking, playmaking cornerbacks capable of shutting down a top receiver or changing a game with a big interception. The Rams haven't had that swagger at the position for a long time http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com...nez-jersey , and their presence will allow coordinator Wade Phillips to be more aggressive against passers. Peters and Talib have also brought a confident attitude to a Los Angeles defense that relied on Donald's brute brilliance inside to set up much of its success.
SUH AND DONALD
Suh looks very comfortable already in the Rams' scheme, where he will be asked to play primarily at nose tackle for the first time in his career. Yet he still must learn how to play alongside Donald, whose second consecutive contract holdout has stretched to the brink of the regular season again. The Rams have a potentially fearsome combination in these two dominant defensive linemen, but Donald's absence creates a large unknown.
IN THE MIDDLE
The front and back of the Rams' defense appears solid, but the linebackers are under scrutiny. The Rams couldn't fit their new defensive stars under the cap without trading Alec Ogletree, their leading tackler last season. Untested Cory Littleton is starting on the inside alongside Mark Barron, who has barely touched the field during camp and the preseason. Matt Longacre and Samson Ebukam also are expected to start in challenging roles. Phillips' biggest task is making sure his linebackers don't let down the rest of his roster.
THEY'RE SPECIAL
The Rams had four Pro Bowlers on special teams last year, and all four are returning: kick returner Pharoh Cooper, kicker Greg Zuerlein, punter Johnny Hekker and long snapper Jake McQuaide.
Moose Johnston will be busy this football season.
The former Cowboys fullback and the new G.M. of the San Antonio edition of the Alliance of American Football will continue to call NFL games Zach Miller Jersey , according to a FOX spokesperson.
The AAF announced on Thursday the hiring of Johnston and coach Mike Riley. With the inaugural season starting the Sunday after Super Bowl LIII, Johnston surely will be spending plenty of time putting the team’s roster together while also handling weekly games on FOX.
鈥淭he Alliance provides an opportunity for players to begin, extend or restart their careers,鈥?Johnston said in the press release announcing his AAF assignment. 鈥淭here are so many talented athletes who are right on the cusp of making an NFL roster but for one reason or another end up on a practice squad or out of football completely. We鈥檙e going to give them the chance to show the football world what they can do, that they DO belong. A number of these guys are from the great state of Texas, where football is a way of life, and we look forward to having them in Alliance San Antonio uniforms.”
The AAF will play a 10-week season in 2019, with teams in San Antonio, San Diego, Salt Lake City http://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com/rod-smith-jersey , Phoenix, Birmingham, Memphis, Atlanta, and Orlando.

NFL referees Ed Hochuli and Jeff Triplette are retiring.
One of the replacements will be former back judge Shawn Hochuli Bill Bates Jersey , Ed’s son. The other is former side judge Alex Kemp. The two new referees each joined the NFL in 2014.
Ed Hochuli, among the most recognizable of NFL officials because of his muscular build, joined the league in 1990. Triplette came aboard in 1996.
Hochuli, a lawyer by trade, originally was a back judge and moved up to referee in 1992. He worked two Super Bowls and generally was considered among the league’s best officials. Hochuli’s lengthy verbal descriptions of calls were befitting an attorney.
Triplette, a restructuring consultant, became a ref in 1999. He was heavily criticized in the media – including by his former boss, Mike Pereira, now an analyst for Fox – for his crew’s work in January during the Titans-Chiefs playoff game.
Triplette also was the official who threw a penalty flag in 1999 that hit then-Browns tackle Orlando Brown in the eye Cameron Meredith Jersey , injuring the player. Brown missed the next three NFL seasons and sued the league.

Philipp Grubauer made 36 saves and the Washington Capitals celebrated star Alex Ovechkin’s 1,000th career regular season game by clinching their third straight division title with a 3-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday night.
Ovechkin was held without a point but it hardly mattered. T.J. Oshie, Dmitry Orlov and Tom Wilson scored for Washington while Grubauer kept the NHL’s best power play in check as the Capitals assured themselves home-ice advantage through the first two rounds of the postseason.
The Penguins have the top power play in the league but went 0 for 5 with the man advantage. Patric Hornqvist picked up his 27th of the season late in the third period to avoid a shutout. Matt Murray stopped 31 shots but couldn’t quite match Grubauer.
A night after earning a playoff berth for a franchise-record 12th straight year, Pittsburgh lost at home in regulation for just the second time since Jan. 4.
Ovechkin downplayed his milestone game beforehand, half-jokingly saying it didn’t matter much. The 32-year-old knows his career has been equally defined by his 603 goals and his team’s inability to make a deep playoff run.
The Capitals have won 10 of 12 to create some breathing space in the cramped and crowded Metropolitan
DEVILS 2, CANADIENS 1
MONTREAL (AP) – Taylor Hall scored a short-handed goal late in the third period to lift New Jersey.
Nico Hischier tied the score early in the third and Keith Kinkaid stopped 25 shots in his sixth consecutive start for the Devils. New Jersey increased its lead to seven points on Florida for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Devils, vying for their first trip to the postseason since reaching the Stanley Cup Final in 2012, have three games remaining – two fewer than the Panthers.
Daniel Carr scored for the Canadiens, who have already been eliminated from playoff contention. Carey Price finished with 30 saves while playing his 556th game with Montreal Taron Johnson Jersey , pulling into a tie with Jacques Plante for most games by a goaltender in franchise history.
PREDATORS 4, LIGHTNING 1
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – Filip Forsbeg had two goals and an assist to lead the Nashville pastTampa Bay.
Forsberg returned to the Predators‘ lineup after being held out of Saturday’s loss to Buffalo for maintenance. Craig Smith and Ryan Johansen also scored to help Nashville move closer to clinching the Presidents’ Trophy with the league’s best record. Juuse Saros finished with 29 saves.
Tampa Bay, which went 0 for 5 on the power play, played the final two periods without captain Steven Stamkos, who left the game with an undisclosed lower-body injury.
Ondrej Palat scored for the Lightning, and Andrei Vasilevskiy finished with 21 saves while lost his third consecutive game.
The Lightning fell to 5-6-0 in the past 11 games and sit two points behind Boston for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
FLYERS 4, BRUINS 3, OT
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Claude Giroux scored his second goal with 1:21 left in overtime and Philadelphia Flyers recovered from blowing a late lead to inch closer to returning to the playoffs after a one-year absence.
Travis Konecny added a dazzling goal and an assist http://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com/d...son-jersey , Nolan Patrick also scored and Petr Mrazek made 36 saves for the Flyers. Philadelphia who opened an eight-point lead over idle Florida, the last team that can overtake it for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference – the Flyers have three games left and the Panthers five.
Patrice Bergeron tied it with 3.8 seconds left in regulation for the Bruins. With the goaltender pulled, Bergeron got his 30th goal on feed from Brad Marchand after the Flyers twice failed to clear the puck.
Noel Acciari and David Pasrnak scored and Anton Khudobin stopped 20 shots for the Bruins, who lost Brandon Carlo and Riley Nash to injuries a day earlier.
DUCKS 4, AVALANCHE 3, OT
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Ondrej Kase scored 1:34 into overtime to cap Anaheim’s comeback from a two-goal deficit.
Andrew Cogliano had a goal and an assist, and Adam Henrique and Ryan Kesler also scored for the Ducks, who moved into third place in the Pacific Division. Anaheim is one point ahead of Los Angeles with three games remaining for both teams.
Kase was looking to shoot all the way on a 2-on-1 break and won it by going to the short side over Jonathan Bernier’s right shoulder.
Ryan Miller made 19 saves after replacing John Gibson at the start of the second period http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/jo...nks-jersey , helping the Ducks to their fifth straight home win. Gibson, who made 10 saves before departing, appeared to be shaken up late in the first when Gabriel Landeskog was cross-checked by Kesler into the goalie, who was being evaluated for an undisclosed injury.

Aaron Slegers and Jake Cave have been called up from Triple-A by the Minnesota Twins three times apiece this season Bob Lilly Jersey , and the All-Star break is still more than one week away.
Their contributions to this struggling team on Thursday night were sure worthy of a longer stay.
Slegers picked up his first major league win with six smooth innings, Cave reached base all four times he batted, and the Twins stopped their six-game losing streak by hanging on for a 5-2 victory over the lowly Baltimore Orioles.
”I know that I think, and I know Slegers thinks the same thing, that we can play big league baseball,” Cave said. ”We’re ready to go anytime the team needs us, and that’s just kind of how you’ve got to think of it.”
Logan Morrison homered and Cave drove in an eighth-inning insurance run with one of his two doubles for the Twins, who turned to Fernando Rodney in the ninth for his 18th save following two consecutive blown chances. Slegers (1-0) gave up only one run, on the first of two homers by Jonathan Schoop.
”It’s fun to have that in the stat column, to be a major league winner Tress Way Jersey ,” Slegers said. ”I can say that for the rest of my life.”
With eight right-handers in the Orioles lineup, except for Chris Davis, Slegers put his sinker to good use against the second-lowest scoring team in MLB. The Orioles managed just three hits against the 6-foot-10 Slegers, who was the latest to fill the recently revolving fifth spot in the rotation. Manager Paul Molitor stopped short of a commitment, but he indicated Slegers earned another turn after needing only 72 pitches to complete those six innings in his first major league start this season.
”Sometimes you make tough decisions to protect those young guys when they’ve had good outings and make sure they feel good when they come out of the game,” Molitor said.
The Orioles squandered another quality start by Andrew Cashner (2-9) and lost for the 10th time in 11 games. They have the worst record in the major leagues at 24-62, just the team the Twins needed to face to start a season-long 11-game homestand after a pivotal 1-8 road trip.
Trailing AL Central-leading Cleveland by 11 1/2 games, Minnesota has become a probable seller before the non-waiver trade deadline on July 31 with several accomplished players on expiring contracts. Baltimore has essentially been in that boat since April, with slugging shortstop Manny Machado widely considered the best asset on the market this summer.
CASHED OUT
Cashner, one of the offseason acquisitions by the Orioles that suggested their commitment to contending in the daunting AL East http://www.indianapoliscoltsteamonline.c...-sr-jersey , has had more than three runs scored for him in only one of his 17 starts this year. He gave up three runs, two earned, and six hits.
”It’s not like we didn’t want to score for him,” Schoop said. ”I hope things start changing.”
Orioles starters have received the least amount of run support in the major leagues this season.
”I probably had the worst stuff I’ve had this season, but I thought I just grinded throughout the game,” Cashner said. ”When you’re not scoring runs, I feel like I keep my mind sharp on what I want to do out there and thinking pitch to pitch.”
WHOOPS
Cashner was charged with an error in the third, when he was covering first base on a chopper hit by Bobby Wilson to Davis and fumbled the relay toss to let Cave score from second. Wilson eventually scored on a single by Eddie Rosario.
WHIFFS
Rodney struck out Davis to start a perfect ninth, pushing the sputtering slugger into a first-place tie on the Orioles list for strikeouts with 1,305. He is tied with Cal Ripken Jr. Adrian Amos Jersey , who played 3,001 games for Baltimore. Davis has appeared in 972 contests.
MAN, CAVE
Cave, who was recalled from Rochester last week, made a fully extended catch at the wall in right-center to take a potential extra-base hit away from Davis in the fourth inning. Cave doubled twice, driving in one run, to go with a single and an intentional walk.
”He can really flash it out there,” Slegers said.
TRAINER’S ROOM
Orioles: RHP Darren O’Day (strained left hamstring) has been scheduled for his season-ending surgery on July 12. He’ll need six months to recover.
DOZIER’S DAY
Twins second baseman Brian Dozier, who has started 80 of 84 games and appeared in all but one this season, went 0 for 4 with three strikeouts. He’s batting .218.
UP NEXT
Orioles: RHP Dylan Bundy (6-7 http://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com/a...own-jersey , 3.75 ERA) will come off the DL to start Friday night. Bundy has been sidelined by a sprained left ankle.
Twins: RHP Lance Lynn (5-7, 5.49 ERA) will take the mound in the second game of the series, coming off his worst turn of the season. He gave up seven runs in Chicago to the Cubs in just 1 2/3 innings.

Word on Monday was that guard Arie Kouandjio will miss the entire season after having surgery to repair a torn quad and confirmation of that came on Tuesday.
Washington announced that they have placed Kouandjio on waivers with an injury designation. If he goes unclaimed on waivers, he will revert to injured reserve or work out a release with an injury settlement.
The team also announced an addition at guard with Kouandjio out of the picture. They have signed Isaiah Williams to the 90-man roster.
Williams signed with Washington as an undrafted free agent in 2016 and spent the year on the practice squad. He spent time with the Chiefs and Colts last season and spent time on Indianapolis’ active roster without appear in any games.
Kouandjio started the final six games of the year at left guard last season. Shaun Lauvao, Kyle Kalis and Tyler Catalina join Williams and right guard Brandon Scherff on the current depth chart at guard.

As he prepares for his second season Jamaal Williams Jersey , Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky can sense the difference and so can his teammates.
It’s the faith in him and the leadership he’s showing.
”I love the position I’m in and the leadership role,” Trubisky said Wednesday.
”I have to know the guys are looking at me. Come out every day and bring the energy and make sure I’m taking care of my business so that everyone else’s job is easier around them, too. That’s what I’m trying to do and I love the responsibility and I’m just very excited for the continuous opportunities to move forward and move this team.”
How far the Bears go largely hinges on the development of their quarterback.
General manager Ryan Pace banked on a big payoff when he traded up a spot with San Francisco last year to draft Trubisky with the No. 2 overall pick. He then largely designed the offseason game plan around his young quarterback.
The Bears hired the offensive-minded Matt Nagy off Andy Reid’s staff in Kansas City to replace the fired John Fox and overhauled their receiving group, with Allen Robinson the most notable addition.
They also added some potential difference makers in the draft, taking Iowa lineman James Daniels and Memphis receiver Anthony Miller in the second round.
More than anything, they believe they surrounded Trubisky with the pieces he needs to reach his potential and invigorate a struggling franchise.
The Bears have four straight last-place finishes in the NFC North and just one playoff appearance since the 2006 team reached the Super Bowl.
Along with the new additions, the Bears are seeing a more comfortable and confident Trubisky.
”He is in more control now,” running back Tarik Cohen said. ”He knows the players. He can really call us out. When you’re a rookie, you’re hesitant to really jump on guys. He’s taken over more of the reins. He’s in the driver’s seat now.”
It’s a different feeling for a quarterback who wasn’t even supposed to play last season. With just 13 college starts at North Carolina, the Bears planned to have him watch from the sideline.
Instead, Mike Glennon struggled and Trubisky started the final 12 games. It was a tough spot for a raw but talented rookie.
And though he showed some promise, he clearly had room to grow. It didn’t help that he was working with a struggling receiving group hit hard by injuries.
It all added up to an offense that ranked 30th overall and finished in the bottom half for the third time in four years.
But whether it’s the new system and pieces around him or just the fact that he’s no longer a rookie Kevin White Jersey , Trubisky is more comfortable. He’s embracing the responsibility that comes with his role, and he can sense the mounting faith in him.
”Nothing gives me more confidence than when my teammates believe in me,” Trubisky said.
He’s still facing a steep learning curve. The same goes for his teammates and the coaches. They’re all adjusting.
”That’s part of being out here, too, with these guys, the nuances of things, the year-to-year editing that you do,” new offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich said.
The system is ”100 percent” Nagy’s, Helfrich said.
As for Trubisky?
”I really like his mindset,” Helfrich said.
He sees a quarterback who’s not afraid to ask questions as he grows into the job.
”I think we all see through his eyes on a lot of things and through his brain and how he thinks through things,” Helfrich said.
”That’s a big part of it, too is just learning how that guy sees things and being able to talk and teach to that. Today he made some mistakes Brett Favre Jersey , today he corrected some guys, but he’ll throw that away and build from the good stuff and continue to kind of add a little bit more each day.”
NOTES: WR Kevin White said the conversation with general manager Ryan Pace was ”clean cut and smooth” when he found out the Bears weren’t picking up his fifth-year option. He also said he is feeling ”really good” as he works his way back from a broken shoulder. Drafted seventh overall in 2015 and Pace’s first pick as a general manager, White has been limited to five games because of leg and shoulder injuries.

Road weary and a bit homesick, the San Francisco Giants picked up a victory Sunday that could be the momentum needed to get a long stretch in the Bay Area off to a good start.
Nick Hundley and Brandon Belt each hit two-run home runs and Chris Stratton pitched six solid innings to help the San Francisco Giants avoid a three-game sweep at Los Angeles with a 4-1 victory over the Dodgers on Sunday.
It marked the end of the Giants’ fourth three-city road trip over the first 2 1/2 months of the season, and the last hurdle the club needed to clear before a stretch where they play 20 of the next 26 games at AT&T Park. After that, the Giants hit the All-Star break then play three interleague games at Oakland.
”We’re through the hardest part of the schedule, I think,” Belt said about the Giants already playing 42 of their 81 road games, exactly one month before the All-Star Game. ”It’s not easy going to the East Coast a lot and having 10-game road trips. We have a lot of games coming up at home and everybody is excited about that.”
Hundley got the Giants going early Sunday with a homer in the first inning, halfway up the pavilion seats in left field for his eighth of the season. Belt followed two innings later with his 12th home run and first since returning from an appendectomy on June 1.
The Dodgers saw their modest five-game win streak come to an end, but they are still 11-3 in June. They went 6-2 on their just-completed homestand and now head to Chicago for a National League Championship Series rematch with the Cubs.
The Giants went 4-6 on their 10-day road trip to Washington, Miami and Los Angeles Mike Ditka Jersey , and now return home for a 10-game homestand against the Marlins, Padres and Rockies. They stay in the division for a six-game road trip then return for another 10-game homestand.
Sunday’s victory gave the Giants a 16-26 record away from home. They are 19-11 in San Francisco.
”We can’t have this road record, that’s not going to work, so we have to get better there,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. ”At home, we have to keep up what we have been doing there and hopefully the guys catch their breath and like the home cooking.”
Dodgers rookie pitcher Caleb Ferguson (0-1) gave up four runs on just two hits, the home runs from Hundley and Belt. He struck out six in his third career start, with an unearned run that happened when Gorkys Hernandez reached base on an error by shortstop Enrique Hernandez in front of Belt’s homer.
”Of the three (starts), this was his best outing,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. ”I thought he did a great job of pounding the strike zone, getting some empty swings.”
Former Dodgers left-hander Tony Watson opened the ninth inning for the Giants with a strikeout of Max Muncy before closer Hunter Strickland recorded the final two outs for his 14th save in 17 chances.
STRATTON GETS HIS REVENGE
Stratton (8-4) entered 0-3 with a 7.88 ERA against the Dodgers, and was roughed up in an April 28 start when he gave up six earned runs over a short 1 1/3 innings http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com...ery-jersey , easily his shortest start of the year.
Sunday’s outing was in complete contrast to his previous efforts against the Dodgers.
”It was big,” Stratton said of his outing Sunday. ”Definitely the last time was not a pretty one. I have to credit Hundley back there behind the plate. I don’t think I had my best stuff today, especially with fastball command.”
Stratton gave up a first-inning run when Hundley tried to cut down Justin Turner at second base and threw the ball into center field. Max Muncy came home from third base on the error. Otherwise the right-hander was stingy against a Dodgers lineup that entered with 34 home runs in June.
TRAINER’S ROOM
Giants: C Buster Posey, who saw action in all 16 innings of Thursday’s game at Miami, was not in the starting lineup Sunday with what manager Bruce Bochy labeled ”general soreness.” SS Brandon Crawford will go on paternity leave Monday for the birth of his fourth child and said that he expects to miss three games.
Dodgers: RHP Tom Koehler had a setback in his recovery from a right shoulder strain and will now have to restart his rehab program, according to manager Dave Roberts. His targeted return has been pushed back to August. LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu had some tightness in his left groin strain and his recent bullpen outing was cut short to 20 pitches. Roberts would not call Ryu’s situation a setback, but would not confirm a July return either.
UP NEXT
The Giants will send left-hander Andrew Suarez (2-4, 4.92 ERA) to the mound Monday as the club returns home from its 10-day road trip to face the Miami Marlins. In his second start since coming off the disabled list, RHP Kenta Maeda (4-4, 3.61) could be available for as many as 90 pitches Monday in the opener of a three-game series at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs.

The New York Rangers fired coach Alain Vigneault hours after they missed the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
General manager Jeff Gorton announced the firing Saturday night Dan Hampton Jersey , a full day before the end of the NHL regular season but long after New York’s playoff hopes were gone.
The Rangers will begin searching for his replacement immediately.
The Rangers made the playoffs in four of Vigneault’s five seasons as coach, including a 2014 trip to the Stanley Cup Final. They went 226-147-37 in the regular season under Vigneault, who is third in regular-season and playoff wins in franchise history.
New York’s front office decided in the middle of this season to go young, sell at the trade deadline and begin a rebuilding process in the hopes of becoming a title contender again. Vigneault repeatedly said he believed the Rangers would have made the playoffs if they didn’t go in that direction.
”I believe and some other people also believe that we would have gotten in, but a tough decision was made for the long-term future of this organization and you have to respect it,” Vigneault said recently.
After a 5-0 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday afternoon, the veteran coach said he expected to be back next season.
”I think my staff is the right staff for this job,” Vigneault said. ”This is just my opinion, but I think one of the strongest assets of this organization is its coaching staff. They’re experienced Charley Taylor Jersey , we’ve been able to do it with veteran players, we’ve been able to do it with younger players, our development record.”
It’s unclear if assistants Lindy Ruff and Scott Arniel will return or be considered as head-coaching candidates.
When Gorton announced the Rangers’ pivot toward a youth movement, he said Vigneault’s future would be decided after the season. Before being fired, Vigneault made a passionate case to keep his job.
”I’ve gone through every facet, whether it be a young team, an old team, once we know the team, every year is the same thing Shawn Lauvao Jersey ,” Vigneault said. ”Once we know the team we try and put in a system, it maximizes their talent and their potential and try and mask and work on the areas that we need improvement.”
Vigneault, who turns 57 in May, has coached 16 NHL seasons for the Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks and Rangers. His team made the playoffs 11 times, and he took Vancouver to the 2011 Cup Final.
Because of that track record, Vigneault should be a candidate to coach in the NHL next season, which would take the Rangers off the hook for his contract, which was extended in early 2017.

More NHL hockey: Long before Colin Kaepernick's protest during the national anthem became one of the biggest issues in the NFL Cody Parkey Jersey , Oakland Raiders tight end Jared Cook was one of a handful of St. Louis players who took part in their own on-field display against police brutality and racial injustice.
Cook was one of five players on the Rams in 2014 who mimicked the "Hands up, don't shoot" symbol during pregame introductions in support of protesters in Ferguson, Missouri, after a grand jury declined to indict a police officer in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man, Michael Brown.
While Cook has not been a regular part of protests during the national anthem since Kaepernick first started it in 2016, he supports the cause and disagrees with the NFL's announcement last week that players would be required to stand during the national anthem.
"We're here for a bigger platform," he said Tuesday. "We're not just athletes. We're people that live this. It's people in our neighborhood, it's people that we grew up with, it's people that we know who are actually living through these circumstances. So when we speak on it Eric Kush Jersey , it's not like we're just speaking out of the side of our neck. It's things that actually touch home and things that we can actually relate to. All I have to say is, I just think it's sad that it's veered from something that stood for good and the whole narrative has changed into something that's negative when that was not what it was initially about in the first place."
Kaepernick stoked the debate over the anthem when he began protesting police brutality and racial injustice in 2016 by refusing to stand during the playing of "The Star-Spangled Banner" before games.
Several players followed suit that year but the issue really moved to the forefront in 2017 when President Donald Trump brought it up at a campaign rally, saying NFL owners should fire any player who refused to stand during the anthem.
More than 200 players protested during the anthem that weekend before the number of protesters dwindled as the season progressed. But the league tried to settle the issue last week by mandating that players must either stand respectfully for the anthem or remain in the locker room. Teams will be subject to fines if players don't comply and will have the option of punishing players.
While other leagues like the NBA already mandate that players stand for the anthem, Cook said there could have been better consultation with the union on this issue and a way to give players an avenue to express their views on these issues.
"You look at a league like the NBA," he said. "I think the NBA always handles its social issues pretty well. It always handles its players really well and with utmost respect for the players. I think there could have been a bigger and a better way to fix the situation."

Baker Mayfield's first win was beating the clock.
The No. 1 overall pick in this year's NFL draft signed his rookie contract on Tuesday with the Cleveland Browns http://www.washingtonredskinsteamonline....son-jersey , who believe the quarterback from Oklahoma can lead them back to respectability and more.
Mayfield finalized his four-year, $32 million deal a day before Cleveland's players are scheduled to report to training camp and avoided being a holdout. Mayfield's contract includes a $22 million signing bonus.
Rookie cornerback Denzel Ward, selected with the No. 4 overall pick, remains unsigned. But the Browns are hopeful they can also get the former Ohio State star under contract before their first practice on Thursday.
One of college football's most popular and polarizing players Eric Ebron Jersey , Mayfield is not expected to start in his first season for Cleveland. The Browns acquired former Buffalo quarterback Tyrod Taylor during an offseason trade and coach Hue Jackson has made it clear that the veteran will play until Mayfield is ready.
That doesn't mean Mayfield won't try to beat out Taylor.
"I'm always competitive," he said during rookie camp. "It wouldn't matter what (Jackson) was saying in regards to the competition. I'm still going to compete and try and win that job."
Mayfield, who was a two-time walk-on in college, won the Heisman Trophy last season after he passed for 4 Oren Burks Jersey ,627 yards and 43 touchdowns. Despite some questions about his character after an off-field incident and some well-publicized antics during games, the Browns chose him over several other top-tier college QBs in April's draft.
Mayfield impressed coaches and teammates with his attitude and work ethic during spring workouts, but he still has a ways to go before he can unseat Taylor, who ended the Bills' long playoff drought last season.
Cleveland has spent nearly the past two decades searching for its franchise quarterback and hope Mayfield can finally end its quest.
The Browns are coming off a 0-16 season Jamison Crowder Jersey , but there is renewed optimism following an offseason roster overhaul that included the acquisition of Taylor, wide receiver Jarvis Landry and linebacker Mychal Kendricks.
After transferring from Texas Tech, Mayfield started 39 games for the Sooners. He finished his career with 14,607 yards passing and 131 touchdowns. He also ended ranked second in FBS history in passing efficiency rating (175.4) Eddie Goldman Jersey , third in yards per attempt (9.7) and tied for fourth in touchdown passes.
Running back Jerick McKinnon‘s first season with the 49ers ended before it started when he tore his ACL in practice on Saturday and the team officially removed him from the active roster on Monday.
McKinnon has been placed on injured reserve and will spend the rest of the year recovering from the injury. Alfred Morris and Matt Breida are set to carry the load in the backfield with McKinnon out of the picture.
The 49ers also placed safety Marcell Harris on injured reserve. The sixth-round pick hurt his hamstring this summer and can be designated for return later this year.
The 49ers filled the roster spots by signing defensive back Antone Exum and offensive lineman Matt Tobin. Exum played two games for the Niners last year and was released over the weekend. Tobin failed to make the Patriots this summer and has 57 games of experience with the Seahawks and Eagles.

Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews says he needs surgery on his nose after getting hit in the face with a line drive during a charity softball game.
Matthews was pitching during Saturday’s game when offensive lineman Lucas Patrick hit the ball directly into Matthews’ face Thurman Thomas Jersey , knocking him to the ground. The Green Bay Press Gazette reports that Matthews got up, covered his face with his glove, then walked to the dugout. He did not return to the game.
Matthews tweeted later that he busted his nose and would have surgery after the swelling subsides. He thanked fans for their well-wishes and expressed gratitude that his injury wasn’t more serious.
The Packers are in the middle of their organized team activities. Matthews hasn’t participated in OTAs because of a knee injury.

One key to fantasy football success comes from looking at strength of schedule. It shouldn't be the only way you build a winning squad, but matchups help make sure you're playing meaningful games in December rather than looking ahead to baseball.
Based on the NFL's scheduling formula, the Houston Texans enter the regular season with the easiest docket. Houston's opponents for 2018 had a combined .453 winning percentage last season. That alone has been a reason why quarterback Deshaun Watson has climbed into the top 40 picks in most fantasy drafts Trent Murphy Jersey , and is also a cause of renewed hope in running back Lamar Miller. The Texans play each of the five teams that made the first six picks in this year's NFL draft.
A healthy J.J. Watt extends into the deeper phase of fantasy drafts, especially if Watt returns to the Hall of Fame-caliber player he had been from 2012-15. Houston's defense has been among the first six taken off fantasy draft boards and would be a bargain of sorts should Watt re-emerge as the game's best defender.
Another team with a beneficial schedule is the loaded Steelers offense, which will play a schedule of opponents with a .477 winning percentage. Anyone in position to draft either running back Le'Veon Bell or receiver Antonio Brown now has more fodder, while receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster_who also has risen draft boards this month_sits on the outer edge of being a top 35-40 selection.
Looking for easier schedules can also help when seeking a sleeper pick. Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota flies under the radar yet could be fantasy gold as Tennessee has the second-easiest schedule (.465). Wideout Mike Williams' appeal is bolstered by the Chargers and their 24th-ranked docket (.480), while the Broncos' defense has the chance to return to their dominant ways with a schedule tied for 25th (.477).
On the flip side http://www.indianapoliscoltsteamonline.c...-sr-jersey , those looking at Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford should tread lightly, as Detroit has the second-toughest schedule (.535). A schedule with a .523 winning percentage (tied for fifth-highest) is enough to slow down the lofty talk of a Browns revival, along with requiring a second look at the likes of receiver Josh Gordon and running back Carlos Hyde.
Again, strength of schedule isn't a be-all, end-all when considering a player. The Packers have the league's toughest schedule (.539) Jerrell Freeman Jersey , but Aaron Rodgers is consistently the first quarterback off the board, while the bevvy of offensive talent the Saints have stockpiled will still go high despite their third-toughest schedule.
OSUNA CLOSING AGAIN
Controversial closer Roberto Osuna is now the full-time stopper for the Astros after earning his first save for the World Series champions on Wednesday. The decision to elevate him in the ninth inning coincides with Houston snapping out of a funk to take two of three in a critical series against the Mariners, leaving Houston one game ahead of Oakland in the American League West.
The combination of his devastating arsenal and the potential for high-leverage situations could see him approach double digits in saves along with enhancing the strikeout category by season's end.
RASKY BUSINESS
Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask may no longer be a top-five player at his position, but don't expect regression this season despite his 5-7 record and .903 save percentage in the postseason.
Rask enters 2018-19 with five straight 30-win seasons and while his save percentage has crested since his .930 mark in 2013-14, he remains a reliable net-minder who could become a value pick if he dips past the 80th overall pick in fantasy drafts.

The only two-run sprint downhill scheduled for the women’s World Cup this season has been called off after training was canceled for a second straight day on Friday.
The international ski federation replaced Saturday’s event with a one-run downhill from a lowered start as the mandatory training session will now be held immediately before that race.
”It’s a pity Eric Kush Jersey ,” said FIS women’s race director Atle Skaardal, adding that the traditional downhill scheduled for Sunday remained unaffected. That race will be the last before the Pyeongchang Games open next week. The women’s Olympic downhill is scheduled for Feb. 21.
Once used as an emergency solution when conditions made a proper downhill impossible, the federation is attempting to turn the two-run race on a shortened course into a regular format at the World Cup.
The 30-fastest racers from the opening leg get to start in reverse order in the final run, making sure the winner will only be known when the last racer has come down. The new format could possibly replace the unpopular combined event Jourdan Lewis Jersey , which adds results of one downhill or super-G run with one slalom run.
The last downhill with two runs was held in Zauchensee, Austria, two years ago, also as a late replacement for a regular race. The event was won by 2010 Olympic downhill champion Lindsey Vonn.
Organizers first delayed Friday’s training by 2 + hours before calling it off http://www.buffalobillsteamonline.com/co...uez-jersey , a day after bad weather canceled the first session. Course workers needed more time as the slope had too many weak spots after Thursday’s rain and snowfall.
”The hill transformed in some places during inspection” on Friday morning, Skaardal said. ”I am confident we have a good race track ready for tomorrow.”
On Saturday, the 44 racers will do a training run over the full Kandahar course, but it will be shortened by 750 meters (820 yards) for the race two hours later.
”Doing two runs from the top shortly after each other would be too much Mike Daniels Jersey ,” Skaardal said.
Sunday’s race will be held over the full distance of nearly 3 kilometers (1.8 miles).
Johnny Manziel never made it off the sideline in Hamilton's regular-season opener, looking on as starter Jeremiah Masoli played in the Tiger-Cats' 28-14 loss to the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday night.
Manziel is making a comeback with the Canadian Football League team after being released by the Cleveland Browns in March 2016. The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner at Texas A&M was 21 of 32 for 168 yards and a touchdown in two exhibition games.
Masoli was 25 of 36 for 344 yards and a touchdown and also ran for a score. Calgary rallied in the fourth quarter on Bo Levi Mitchell 15-yard touchdown pass to Kamar Jorden, and Don Jackson's 44-yard scoring run.
Hamilton will return to action Friday night at Edmonton.

Julio Jones was willing to pay $84 http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com...ams-jersey ,435 to not work out with Matt Ryan at the Falcons minicamp this week.
But apparently he has no problem with going somewhere else, presumably on his own dime, to work out with him.
Via Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com, the Falcons quarterback said he expects Jones to be at the private workouts he has conducted pre-training camp.
They’ve generally gone to South Florida but Ryan didn’t reveal details of the trip, but made it clear he hoped to see his top wideout, who has stayed away from Falcons workouts while hoping for an upgraded contract.
“There’s probably about 12 of us that are going to get together in the month of July, and he’ll certainly be a part of that,” Ryan said. “We’ll have an extended period where we get some work together. You know, that’s something that we’ve done in the past. The past couple of years, we were down in Miami.
“This year is a little bit later due to kind of my offseason, but we’ll still have that chance to work together. And I think that will be really productive for us.”
Ryan just became the father to twins Chuck Howley Jersey , so he pushed the passing camp back later in the offseason. The quarterback also downplayed the time it would take to catch Jones up on the changes to the offense this year, as second-year coordinator Steve Sarkisian has tweaked some things.
“I don’t think that will be difficult,” Ryan said. “He’s such an incredible player, such a talented player. And he’s been working hard. He’s in great shape. I think he’ll pick those new things up really quickly. And he’s got a lot of time on task with 95 percent of our system. So, he knows this system inside and out. He’s always extremely well-prepared. And I’m confident and positive he’ll be ready to go.”
Jones has three years and $35 million left on his old contract, but other recent deals in the wide receiver market have made his shrink in comparison.
Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton gave New York a scare with an awkward fall in right field. An inning later, he showed everyone in the Bronx that he was just fine.
Stanton, Aaron Hicks and Kyle Higashioka each homered and New York went ahead early and hung on to beat the Atlanta Braves 8-5 on Tuesday night.
Stanton was shaken up after crashing into the right field wall chasing after Nick Markakis‘ seventh-inning home run. He knocked padding off the base of the wall, and the team’s training staff ran out to check on New York’s prized offseason acquisition a pitch later. Stanton remained in the game, made a leaping catch later in the inning, then slugged his 20th home run of the season in the eighth.
”That’s par for the course http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/kh...ack-jersey , that’s baseball,” Stanton said. ”If you get subbed in, you usually get the ball the first time, so, something like that happens, expect it.”
Stanton’s homer gave New York some breathing room after the Braves crept on its early lead. His two-run shot off Evan Phillips made him the 11th player to reach 20 homers in each of his first nine major league seasons. Phillips was making his major league debut.
New York is a major league-best 32-13 at home. The Yankees improved to a majors-best 21-6 against left-handed starters and remain a game behind Boston for the best record in baseball.
Aaron Judge had two hits and a walk, and he stole two bases for the first time in his career. Hicks also walked twice as New York drew eight free passes.
Markakis and Ender Inciarte each hit two-run homers for Atlanta, which ended a four-game winning streak. The Braves remain atop the NL East but fell behind the Brewers for the best record in the NL.
A night after Atlanta rookie Ronald Acuna Jr. barely cleared the wall to give Atlanta an 11-inning victory, the Yankees took advantage of their cozy stadium.
Hicks continued his home run binge by hitting Sean Newcomb’s 95 mph fastball two rows into the right field stands for his 15th of the season and a 2-0 lead in the first. Hicks has hit nine home runs in his last 17 games.
”He’s put together a really good season for us and right now, he’s at a really, really good place in the batter’s box Troy Aikman Jersey ,” Boone said.
Newcomb (8-3) stood on the mound shaking his head after the ball carried over the fence. The left-hander allowed five runs in 2 2/3 innings in the shortest start of his career. Newcomb had posted three straight quality starts but threw a career-high 111 pitches his last time out.
”Balls kind of get sucked up out there, so that’s frustrating,” he said.
New York scored twice in the third without a hit. Newcomb walked the bases loaded, then walked Brandon Drury to force in a run. Luke Jackson relieved, but he walked Higashioka for another run. Newcomb’s five walks matched a career high.
”He was just having a hard time controlling everything,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said.
Staked with a six-run cushion, Yankees starter Domingo German tired in the fifth. After Johan Camargo walked, Inciarte crushed a curveball into the stands for his sixth of the season.
Rookie Ozzie Albies homered on the next pitch to draw Atlanta within three. Freddie Freeman and Markakis hit consecutive singles to end German’s night. Atlanta hit back-to-back homers for just the third time this season.
A.J. Cole, reinstated off the disabled list earlier in the day, struck out Tyler Flowers with the bases loaded to end the threat. Since being acquired from Washington on April 23, Cole (2-0) has allowed one earned run in 14 2/3 innings.
In the eighth Michael Irvin Jersey , Chasen Shreve relieved with runners on first and second and one out and retired Inciarte and Albies to preserve a one-run lead.
Aroldis Chapman threw a scoreless ninth for his 23rd save. The hard-throwing closer was used in three straight games for the first time this season.
HAILEY’S HANDS
Eight-year old Hailey Dawson threw out the ceremonial first pitch with her 3D printed hand created by students at UNLV. Dawson was born with Poland Syndrome, a rare birth defect that left the youngster without the three middle fingers on her right hand. She has been on a quest to throw a first pitch for each MLB team.
HOMERING HIGASHIOKA
Higashioka became the third player in franchise history to homer for his first two big league hits, joining Alfonso Soriano (1999-2000) and Joe Lefebvre (1980).
TRAINER’S ROOM
Yankees: INF Gleyber Torres (right hip stiffness) was held out of the starting lineup. The sensational rookie ”stiffened up” Monday night, according to manager Aaron Boone, but entered as a defensive replacement in the eighth. … RHP Masahiro Tanaka remains scheduled for a rehab start with Triple-A Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday. Boone is hopeful Tanaka will throw between 65 and 75 pitches. … C Austin Romine (left hamstring) was held out of the starting lineup for a third straight night
UP NEXT
LHP CC Sabathia (5-3, 3.02 ERA) pitches the series finale for New York. Sabathia allowed just seven earned runs over five starts in June (1.93 ERA) and is 3-1 in four starts against Atlanta. He’s opposed by Julio Teheran (6-5, 4.21 ERA), who gave up eight runs in 4 1/3 innings in his only appearance against New York on Aug, 30, 2015.
